World Forum for Inclusive Education: Join the UNESCO mission
The campaign emphasized unity, diversity, and human dignity in the face of emerging challenges. UNESCO contributes to peace and security by promoting collaboration among the nations through education, science and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law and human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Towards 2030 for Sustainable Development, it is necessary to be able to provide opportunities for a more inclusive and just society. More broadly to ensure that all people, regardless of gender, age, race or ethnicity, ability, location, or other social characteristics, have equal opportunities for educational advancement and lifelong learning.
From 2000-2010, the number of children and youth who did not receive an education decreased steadily; however, data from the UNESCO Institute of Statistics shows that this progress has essentially stopped in recent years. 262 million children and youth are still not in school and more than 617 million children and youth do not achieve a minimum level of proficiency in reading and mathematics. Those who are less fortunate have the least chance of accessing quality education.
“All children should learn together where no matter what difficulties or differences they may have. Inclusive schools must recognize and respond to the diverse needs of their students (SALAMANCA STATEMENT)”. Since then, the concept of inclusion has broadened, emphasizing the need to reach all learners, assuming that every learner is equally important and entitled to receive relevant, equitable, and effective educational opportunities.
This is reinforced by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, specifically Goal 4 (SDG4), which calls for education systems to ensure quality education that is inclusive and equitable and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all and UNESCO’s comprehensive guidelines to ensure inclusion and equity in education.
One form of educational services for all students can be through inclusive education. Equitable access to high-quality education requires that every child has the right to receive an equal education according to their needs and abilities. In addition, a system is needed that gives freedom and opportunity to all students, so that there are no limits for them to get quality education.
Currently all continents in the world have started implementing inclusive education in their countries, but in its implementation there are still many problems that occur. Based on several studies, it shows that the implementation of inclusive education is hampered by various problems such as the problem of inappropriate policy development, teacher attitudes, lack of teacher training, inadequate support and resources, and curriculum problems. In overcoming the problems of inclusive education that exist in the world, it is necessary to have a forum to accommodate ideas or a forum for exchanging opinions in overcoming these problems. One of the solutions to overcome this problem is to form a forum that will actively become a forum for addressing inclusive education problems, namely the World Forum of Inclusive Education. This forum will be attended by various universities in various countries on 5 continents in the world.
